I didn't have to work today, and I got my last application done.

I just recently tried two new patterns and I thought I'd share!

Recently I asked for a cupcake purse pattern and got plenty of help. I asked because a friend of mine loves cupcakes, and asked me to make her a cupcake purse, as well as some armwarmers.

I'd never attempted either of these things but I'm pretty proud of how they turned out.

Dear Memaw,

I'm sorry I didn't come to the nursing home and visit you on Christmas. I wanted to so badly, I felt selfish, because nobody should spend Christmas without ones that love them. But last time we went it killed me that you didn't remember who I was and when I cried Mom yelled at me and told me I couldn't cry in front of you because it would make you upset and we would have to leave. I knew if you didn't remember on Christmas I wouldn't have been able to keep myself from crying, especially on that day. I was already upset all day because since you were moved to the nursing home this Christmas was different than any my entire life, since the time I was 3 we have been going to your house to spend with the family for lunch, this was the first Christmas in 18 yeas we haven't done that. I can't deal with changes like that, because the reason it changed breaks my heart. So please know it wasn't that I didn't want to see you, but I couldnt muster the emotional strength to do it. I do love you, whether you remember me or not.

Dear Mom,
I didn't go see Grandma because I didn't want to upset her like all the other times I've gone and cried. It wasn't as selfish as you think, yes I wanted her to have a good Christmas, yes I thought it might be nice for her to see me. But I thought about what would happen when I cried, because I would have on that day no matter whether or not she remembered me or not. And I didn't want to upset her like last time, I hate when she gets angry because there is a "stranger" in her room crying, and then the nurses have to come in to get her under control. I just wanted her to be calm and happy on Christmas, I wasn't worried about me I was worried about her, that isn't selfish. I could have cared less whether I cried or not, because I still did at home, I just didn't want to upset her again. I need you to understand please because you ruined my Christmas by reminding me all day how selfish I was.

My room mate asked me to make a couple of hats he could give to friends. They're all finished and ready to be given away. It was nic to have a couple diversions from the mor involved projets I'm working on; including my first thread project.

He actually purchased a pattern for the cthulhu but I didn't really like how it as turning out so I frogged it and made up my own. It's pretty much a beanie with tentacles and wings. I didn't take a picture of the back but the wings are bigger and kinda bat-like. I based them on a leaf pattern at first and went from there. This was also the first time I had used a Paton yarn (wool in this case). I understand why it's so popular.


He also wanted me to make a gift for a mutual friend of ours. After browsing Ravelry, we decided on a dead fish hat and used this pattern. I made up the fins because the pattern just uses rectangles (the side fins aren't even the same size but it's hard to tell once they're on the hat... and I'm wearing it crooked anyway).

Today's Sweet comes from five cake decorators who made an extreme Christmas Tree cake for the Festival of Trees in Utah to benefit Primary Children's Medical Center. Since the cake was itself made to benefit a charity, I thought it would be a fitting way to wrap up our Charity Countdown.

That's Amelia Carbine of Frosted Fantasy Cakes, Dianne Holgate of Cakes by Dee-sign, Tara Churchill, Paula Ames of Cake Creations, and Lynn Winter of Sugar Bakers.

We finished our 14 days of giving on Christmas Eve (go here if you don't know what this is about), and I'm proud to say that together we gave a lot of money to some fantastic organizations! We haven't quite reached all of our goals, though, so if you haven't had the chance to give your dollar yet there's still time to donate!

Here are the current tallies:

Charity:Water - $12,869 raised online so far. Every $5K builds a well that serves 250 people in need of clean drinking water, so as of now 643 people will be helped thanks to your dollars! (Today is the last day to give, so let's see if we can't still reach our initial goal of $20K!)

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - Sorry, we didn't set up a page to track these donations. But you know you gave, right? So that's all that matters.

Heifer International - $5,770 raised online so far. Again, that's over halfway to our $10K goal!

Child's Play - since they also accept Paypal (and prefer it if the donation is more than $1), we don't have totals for Child's Play. On our First Giving page we've had $2,072 given - but again, the majority of us gave via Paypal.

Share Our Strength - Initially featured on Day #2 of the Countdown, so a lot of you donated before we had a way of keeping a tally. (Had to switch to St. Jude because the site wouldn't accept $1 donations.) On our First Giving page now, though, we have $2,783.

Puffy Paws Kitty Haven - Another with two options to give, but we've talked to Rick & Chrissy and they reported well over $5,000 given through Paypal. So combined with the $5,186 on the FG page, that's over $10,000 - or enough to feed and house the cats for over 3 months, plus pay for the de-worming meds they needed. Thanks for helping meet some serious needs, guys!

Doctors Without Borders - $4,723 raised online so far - not quite halfway to our $10K goal.

Love 146 - $9,025 raised so far for our $10,000 goal. So close! Oh, and you must read this amazing post by founder Rob Morris on the impact your comments and dollars have had.

Habitat for Humanity - $2,090 raised so far of our $10K goal.

Operation Smile - $2,712. To put that in perspective, that's 12 kids who will now have reconstructive surgeries thanks to your generosity. If we hit our $10K goal, that would be 41 kids.

The Buckland Family Trust - The last time I spoke with Kristie, a close family friend, the Bucklands had received more than $14,000 dollars through Paypal. Awesome! Thank you for helping Amanda & her stepdaughter start to put the pieces of their lives back together.

Free the Slaves - $1,759 so far of our $10K goal. These are all great causes, guys - if you're catching up, please be sure to check them out.

To Write Love On Her Arms - $1,566 so far of our $10K goal.

I made my husband a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Christmas. It's Donatello which is his favorite. It was really hard to get it finished without him seeing it, but he really liked it.

Case for my cousin’s iPod Nano (4th gen).

This is an original project made to fit a 4th gen iPod Nano. It has a decorative bow on the front and a removable wrist strap. It can also be used to affix the case to a belt loop or something.

This case was designed for my 14-year-old cousin as a Christmas present.

Hello! I found a great crochet dress pattern on ravelry, and am dying to make it, but it's from Interweave Crochet spring 2008 magazine, and I don't really want to pay $10 plus shipping when I'm not really interested in anything else in that issue. Does anyone on here have a copy of it they'd be willing to scan and email to me? I'd be happy to do the same if I have a pattern you'd like! (The books I have are here except for this one) Cheers!

We haven't seen each other since August, and the last time we talked was in June, when we both told each other to fuck off, and I told you to 'stay the fuck out of my life'. Christmas 2009 has faded away and we survived - the kids were very happy with their gifts and mom managed to surprise me with a kick ass new popcorn maker - I'm very happy

all of you that have been with me here for a while know my feelings on slash. Not my cup of tea, HOWEVER, I don't have an issue with it. If you like it, It's all good. I'm not about to argue with you about it. If you don't like it, fine. It does nothing for me either. I'll be perfectly honest and say sometimes it squicks me. AGAIN, that doesn't mean anyone reading this needs to be offended. If you find slash incendiary hot, great! Go get your slash on! I mean it, I'm not being sarcastic! I'm sure there are things I like that make me squee and thud that might squick you in return. And I'm talking about fan fiction here, not in ANY WAY making a statement about what two men or two women do in real life. That is so totally not my business

I've never had a tv boyfriend for as long as Liam Neeson has reigned supreme. evah. The longest before this was steve young of the SF 49'ers (I'm ignoring his Mormon underwear, ok?) and he sat the throne for three years. that was a record in these parts before Ol' QGJ took the throne. Wow has that man had staying power! I have never had a king reign this long. and clearly, I never will again because DUDE JUST WON'T STEP DOWN AT ALL. LOL

Oh, I've left him a few times. I left him for chow yun fat. I left chow for dr. jack from lost. I dallied with Christian Bale....

But every time I think I'm out...HE PULLS ME BACK IN! LOL

*Tenacious* King. Loves wearing that crown. He unceremoniously kicked the throne out from under Steve Young and has kept that chair warm ever since. It took Chow Yun Fat in red silk PJ's in Anna and the King to get him to even budge off that throne, and even then it was only a brief exile. Next, the young hawtness of of Dr. Jack from LOST unseated him for a bit, but then Dr. Jack took to crying in every freaking episode, and now he's really more of a consort or concubine than a King. You can't have a king that goes snivelling off every five minutes. It didn't work for Hamlet, either.

I crack myself up...
